Each country has its own reasons and policies for using the coronavirus screening method. The Task Force for the Acceleration of Handling COVID-19 uses the swab test or Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) and rapid test as ways to find out coronavirus infection. However, besides PCR and rapid tests, there are various other types of COVID-19 tests such as at home covid 19 tests to detect the transmission of the coronavirus in a person’s body as follows.

PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction)
The WHO and the health agency in the United States, the CDC, recommend PCR because it is the most accurate. The PCR test is often called a swab test because it takes a sample through a swab from the nose or throat. Samples in the form of sputum, mucus, or fluids will be examined in a genetically based laboratory. This type of PCR test will detect the presence of viral RNA to determine positive or negative corona infection. The PCR test takes longer than other tests because testing to find genetics is not an easy matter. Not everyone has to undergo a type of COVID-19 test such as PCR. The CDC recommends PCR testing only for people with symptoms of being infected with the coronavirus.

Antigen & Antibody Rapid Test
The rapid test is a rapid test to detect viruses based on antigens and antibodies. The antigen rapid test is used to detect the antigen (the outside of the virus). The antigen will be detected when the virus is actively replicating. While the antibody rapid test is used to detect Immunoglobin M (IgM) and Immunoglobin G (IgG) antibodies that are produced in the body to fight the coronavirus. These antibodies will appear in the blood by themselves after a person is infected with the coronavirus a few days later. On that basis, the WHO does not recommend antibody rapid tests for corona detection. The rapid test is only an initial screening for COVID-19 infection. Reactive means that antibodies are found in the blood being tested. If the rapid test results are negative, you are not necessarily free from coronavirus infection. A week after the first test, you must undergo another rapid test to prove that there is no exposure to the corona virus in the body.
