The brain is the most important organ in our body because various body functions are controlled by the brain. Cognitive function is very dependent on brain health which is characterized by the ability of the brain to process various stimuli from the surrounding environment, including learning new things, following intuition, assessing, language skills, and remembering abilities. The ability of the brain can decrease if it rarely receives and processes stimuli, or in other words if we rarely use the brain to think. Brain function will decrease if it rarely processes the stimulus, especially if it is not used optimally because it can cause a decline in function as you age.

The brain consists of two parts; the large brain (cerebrum) and the cerebellum (cerebellum) which each function to process the stimulus. The brain will actually work and experience increased function if all parts of the brain participate in processing the stimulus. This will only happen when we do activities that encourage us to actively move, search, and learn new things in three dimensions in the real world. Playing a game in front of the screen to “sharpen your brain” might give a little positive effect, but it won’t help improve brain function.

By continuing to learn, we will be open to new experiences and things that are a sign that our brain continues to actively process information. Cognitive function will continue to increase because processing new information will increase the size and structure of neurons and the connections between neurons that continue to evolve as you continue to learn. An active brain will reduce the severity of difficult to prevent cognitive disorders such as Alzheimer’s, and increase the resilience of cognitive function.
